In January 2009, IIT Hyderabad admitted 11 PhD students.

Essential qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics/Applied Mathematics/Applied Mechanics/Mechanical Engineering or related fields with prior experience in continuum mechanics. Those who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis are encouraged to apply
Fellowship: Rs. 58000 per month + 27% HRA (if applicable)
Duration of appointment: This position is initially for 11 Months and can be extended
based on satisfactory performance and fund availability
