1 │ UGC‑DAE CSR Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2025 Overview
UGC‑DAE CSR serves as a national facility that grants Indian researchers access to cutting‑edge nuclear and condensed‑matter instrumentation originally developed for the Department of Atomic Energy. The present DST‑sponsored initiative requires two bright Junior Research Fellows to investigate cellular and molecular processes arising from low‑dose radiation—knowledge that has implications in radiotherapy, nuclear safety, and space missions.
2 │ Vacancy Snapshot
| Post | Total Posts | Category | Project Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Research Fellow (JRF) | 02 | Unreserved | DST‑BYST / 2025‑26 |
Fellowships are purely temporary and co‑terminus with the three‑year project duration.
3 │ Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: M.Sc (Physics) with minimum 55 % aggregate or equivalent CPI/CGPA.
- Mandatory Research Aptitude: Qualifying score in CSIR‑UGC NET (JRF/LS) / GATE / JEST—Category I, II or III.
- Desirable: Prior exposure to ion‑beam techniques, radiation physics, spectroscopy or cell‑biology protocols will fetch additional weightage.
- Language & IT Skills: Proficiency in English for technical writing; working knowledge of scientific programming tools (MATLAB, Python, Origin) preferred.
4 │ Age Limit & Relaxation
- Upper age: 28 years as on closing date (22 Jul 2025).
- Relaxations: SC/ST – 5 yrs, OBC – 3 yrs, PwBD – 10 yrs, as per GoI norms.
5 │ Stipend, Tenure & Research Facilities
- Monthly Fellowship: ₹ 37,000 /- plus HRA (currently 18 %) → effective take‑home ≈ ₹43,660.
- Annual Contingency: ₹ 20,000 for consumables, conference travel, software licences.
- Tenure: Initial appointment for one year; extendable to three years upon satisfactory review by project monitoring committee.
- Research Infrastructure: Access to 3 MV tandem accelerator, X‑ray diffractometer, TEM, AFM, Raman & PL spectroscopy suites, in‑house super‑resolution microscopy and high‑performance computing clusters.
6 │ Project Highlights
The funded project aims to identify circulating cell‑free DNA and exosomal factors that modulate radiation by‑stander effect, radio‑resistance and senescence in epithelial and squamous‑cell models. Fellows will:
- Cultivate and irradiate 2D & 3D cell cultures using ion‑beam lines.
- Isolate exosomes, extract cfDNA & perform next‑generation sequencing.
- Quantify oxidative stress, DNA damage markers (γ‑H2AX) and senescence‑associated β‑gal.
- Model signalling pathways employing systems‑biology software.
7 │ Selection Process
- Pre‑screening: Verification of NET/GATE score, marksheets & statement of purpose.
- Shortlisting: Top 10 candidates invited for offline / virtual interview.
- Interview Evaluation: Research aptitude (40 %), project fit (35 %), communication (15 %), academic record (10 %).
