NEET UG 2024: The NEET UG Counselling 2024 has encountered delays and controversies due to allegations of malpractice, leading to demands for its cancellation or postponement. Initially scheduled to begin in early July, the counselling process has now been indefinitely postponed, awaiting further decisions from the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear several pleas concerning the NEET UG 2024 result controversies on July 8, 2024. Following the court’s decision, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is likely to announce new dates for the counselling process, potentially by the end of July, according to official sources.
Why NEET UG Counselling Delaying
The NEET UG Counselling 2024 has faced significant delays and controversies due to allegations of malpractice and demands for its cancellation or postponement. Initially planned to start in early July, the counselling process has been postponed indefinitely amid ongoing legal proceedings.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET UG 2024 results on June 4, which led to widespread concerns about alleged paper leaks and other irregularities. The Supreme Court of India, with Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, is scheduled to hear several petitions on these matters on July 8, 2024. The outcome of this hearing is expected to provide guidance on the future of NEET UG 2024 counselling.
Process and Expectations for NEET UG Counselling
The NEET UG counselling process generally consists of several rounds, including stray vacancy and mop-up rounds. Eligible candidates must register, pay fees, select their preferences, upload required documents, and physically report to their assigned institutions. For the 15% All India Quota (AIQ), NEET UG counselling encompasses seats in government colleges, central and deemed universities, ESIC medical colleges under the IP quota, and seats at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune. Despite calls to cancel the exam held on May 5 due to alleged malpractices, the Centre and the NTA have defended its integrity, arguing that cancellation without substantial evidence would unfairly disadvantage honest candidates.
