The CRPF Constable Tradesman Recruitment 2026 notification was released on 8 April 2026 by the Directorate General, Central Reserve Police Force, New Delhi. It covers 9,195 vacancies across 17 trades including Driver, Cook, Bugler, Carpenter, Tailor, Motor Mechanic Vehicle, and several others. Online applications open on 20 April 2026 and close on 19 May 2026.

This is one of the largest 10th-pass government job opportunities this year. However, several unique features of this recruitment are consistently missed in standard articles: the selection process has six stages (not four), final merit is based exclusively on CBT marks, the recruitment is domicile-based meaning you can only apply for your home state, and Driver candidates need an HTV licence specifically — not just any driving licence. All of this is covered below.

Total Vacancies: 9,195 Posts

The vacancy is split into two categories. Constable (Technical and Tradesmen) has 9,175 posts (9,096 male and 79 female). Constable Pioneer Wing has 20 posts (all male). Total: 9,195.

One critical point almost all articles miss: Constable (Technical and Tradesmen) vacancies are state and UT-wise. You must apply for the state where you have a valid domicile or permanent residence certificate. If you apply for a state where you do not hold domicile, your application will be rejected at document verification even if you clear all other stages.

Pioneer Wing posts (Mason and Electrician only) are on All India Basis. Any candidate from any state can apply for these 20 posts regardless of domicile.

Age Limit (as on 01 January 2026)

PostAge Range
Constable Driver21 to 27 years
All Other Posts18 to 23 years

Age relaxation as per CRPF rules: OBC 3 years, SC/ST 5 years, Ex-Servicemen as applicable. The Driver post has a higher minimum age of 21 because CRPF requires candidates to already hold a Heavy Transport Vehicle licence, which takes time and experience to obtain.

Educational Qualification: Trade-wise Requirements

This section has trade-specific requirements that many candidates overlook, leading to applications that get rejected at document verification.

Constable Driver

Class 10 from a recognised board plus a valid Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) driving licence. A Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) licence alone is not acceptable. If your licence covers only cars or motorcycles, you are not eligible for the Driver trade. Ensure your licence specifically includes HTV.

Constable Motor Mechanic Vehicle (MMV)

Class 10 plus 2-year ITI Certificate in Motor Mechanic or Automobile trade from a recognised institution. This is the most commonly missed qualification condition. Candidates who are 10th pass without an ITI certificate cannot apply for MMV.

Constable Tradesman Pioneer Wing (Mason and Electrician)

Class 10 plus 1 year of experience in the relevant field (masonry or electrical work). Experience must be verifiable.

All Other Trades (Cook, Bugler, Carpenter, Tailor, Barber, etc.)

Class 10 from a recognised board with proficiency and practical work experience in the relevant trade. Proficiency is assessed during the Trade Test stage of the selection process.

Physical Eligibility Standards

CategoryMale HeightFemale HeightMale Chest (Unexpanded/Expanded)
UR, OBC, EWS, SC170 cm157 cm80 cm / 85 cm
Scheduled Tribe (ST)162.5 cm150 cm76 cm / 81 cm
Hill area / NE States / Garhwali / Kumaoni / Dogra / Maratha165 cm155 cm78 cm / 83 cm
Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA)157 cm152 cm76 cm / 81 cm

Chest measurement is for male candidates only. Female candidates are not required to meet specific chest measurements, but overall physical development is assessed. Weight must be proportionate to height and age as per standard medical norms. No fixed weight table exists — the medical board assesses this during examination.

Important: Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are NOT eligible for any post in this recruitment.

Selection Process: 6 Stages, Not 4

The original notification lists 4 steps. The actual selection process has 6 stages. All stages are eliminatory. Failure at any stage ends your candidature for that cycle.

Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

This is the first stage and candidates who fail are eliminated immediately. Running standards:

  • Male candidates: 5 km in 24 minutes
  • Female candidates: 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes
  • Ladakh region male candidates: 1.6 km in 7 minutes
  • Ladakh region female candidates: 800 metres in 5 minutes

PET is pass/fail. There is no appeal mechanism against PET failure. Ex-Servicemen are exempt from PET but must appear in PST for physical measurement recording.

Stage 2: Physical Standards Test (PST)

Conducted after PET. Height, chest, and weight are measured and checked against the standards in the table above. Appeals against PST rejection can be made to the Appellate Authority on the same day. No further appeal is entertained after that.

Stage 3: Computer Based Test (CBT)

The written exam. See the detailed pattern below.

Stage 4: Trade Test

This stage is specifically for CRPF Tradesman recruitment and is often not mentioned in basic summaries. Candidates demonstrate practical proficiency in their applied trade. A Cook is assessed on actual cooking skills. A Driver must demonstrate vehicle operation. A Carpenter demonstrates woodwork. Only candidates who are genuinely skilled in their trade can clear this stage. If you are applying for a trade purely on the basis of eligibility on paper without actual hands-on experience, you will likely be eliminated here.

Stage 5: Document Verification

All original documents verified including Class 10 certificate, domicile/permanent residence certificate, category certificate, trade-specific certificates (ITI for MMV, driving licence for Driver, experience certificate for Pioneer Wing), and photographs.

Stage 6: Medical Examination

Detailed Medical Examination by a CRPF Medical Board. Eyesight without glasses must meet the prescribed standard. Colour blindness, knock knee, flat foot, varicose vein, and squint are disqualifying conditions. Candidates declared unfit can apply for Review Medical Examination (RME) by giving written consent on the same day.

Final merit list is prepared solely on CBT marks of candidates who are medically fit. PET and PST are qualifying in nature and do not add to your score.

How to Apply Online: Step by Step

Official Recruitment Portal: rect.crpf.gov.in

Step 1: Go to the official CRPF recruitment portal and click on the link for Constable (Technical and Tradesmen) Recruitment 2026.

Step 2: Click on “New Registration.” Enter your Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name (exactly as in your Matriculation certificate), Mobile Number, and Email ID. A Provisional Registration Number and Password will be sent to your registered mobile and email.

Step 3: Log in using your Registration Number and Password. Fill in all details: personal information, address, educational qualifications, trade applied for, domicile State/UT, and category.

Step 4: Upload the following scanned documents in JPG/JPEG format:
Photograph: Coloured, 35mm x 45mm, 50 to 100 KB, with the date printed on the photo
Signature: 50 to 100 KB

Step 5: Pay the application fee using your preferred online payment method.

Step 6: Review all entries carefully and submit. Take a printout of the completed application form for reference.

Do not register multiple times. Duplicate registrations lead to cancellation of all applications from that candidate.

Common Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected

Applying for Driver without HTV Licence

A large number of Driver applications get rejected because candidates hold only an LMV licence. CRPF specifically requires a Heavy Transport Vehicle licence. Check your licence category before applying.

Applying for MMV without ITI Certificate

The Motor Mechanic Vehicle trade requires a 2-year ITI certificate. Candidates who are only Class 10 pass without an ITI certificate in the relevant trade are ineligible and will be rejected at document verification.

Applying for a State Where You Have No Domicile

Vacancies (except Pioneer Wing) are state-specific. Applying for a state where you cannot produce a valid domicile certificate results in rejection at document verification after you have cleared all physical and written stages.

Uploading a Photo Without the Date Printed

CRPF specifies that the photograph must have the date printed on it. A standard passport photo without a date will be flagged during scrutiny.

Not Preparing for the Trade Test

Candidates focus entirely on running and the written exam and neglect trade test preparation. If you apply for Cook, you need to demonstrate actual cooking. If you apply for Carpenter, woodwork proficiency is assessed. The Trade Test eliminates candidates who applied based on paper eligibility alone.

Salary and Benefits After Selection

CRPF Constable falls under Pay Level 3 of the 7th Pay Commission.

ComponentAmount
Basic Pay (Pay Level 3)₹21,700 to ₹69,100
Dearness Allowance (DA)As per central government revision
House Rent Allowance (HRA)8% to 24% of basic based on posting city
Risk and Hardship AllowanceFor border and sensitive area postings
Approximate In-Hand₹30,000 to ₹40,000 per month depending on posting

Additional benefits include free accommodation in CRPF barracks or HRA in lieu, free medical treatment for self and family, 60 days of annual leave, group insurance, and pension under the New Pension Scheme. Promotion to Head Constable moves the pay to Level 4.

Preparation Strategy for CRPF Tradesman 2026

Physical Preparation

The application window closes 19 May 2026. CBT and PET stages will likely be scheduled in the second half of 2026. Start running now. Male candidates need 5 km in 24 minutes, which requires a pace of approximately 4 minutes 48 seconds per kilometre. Build this over 6 to 8 weeks of consistent daily training. Do not wait until you know the exam date.

CBT Preparation

100 questions in 2 hours is manageable. The difficulty is Class 10 level. Focus on General Awareness and Numerical Ability as these typically carry the highest marks. For General Awareness, cover last 3 months of current affairs plus basic Indian history, geography, and polity from NCERT textbooks.

Trade Test Preparation

This is the stage most candidates are unprepared for. If you are applying for Cook, spend time in a kitchen understanding standard preparation techniques. If you are applying for Carpenter, practice basic joinery and woodwork. The Trade Test assesses hands-on skill, not theoretical knowledge.

How This Differs from SSC GD Constable 2026

Candidates who are also appearing for the SSC GD Constable 2026 (25,487 posts, exam from 27 April to 30 May 2026) should understand the key differences between the two recruitments:

FactorCRPF Tradesman 2026SSC GD Constable 2026
Trade / Skill RequiredYes (Trade Test mandatory)No trade skill required
Vacancy BasisDomicile-based (state-wise)All India
Age Limit (General)18 to 23 (21 to 27 for Driver)18 to 23

Both use the same Pay Level 3 salary structure. Candidates who meet eligibility for both can and should apply for both to maximise their chances of selection in a central paramilitary force this year. For candidates interested in officer-level posts in CRPF, BSF, and CISF, the UPSC CAPF AC 2026 notification covering 349 Assistant Commandant posts is also open this year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for a state other than my home state?
No. The Constable (Technical and Tradesmen) vacancies are state-specific. You must apply for the state where you hold a valid domicile or permanent residence certificate. Pioneer Wing posts (Mason and Electrician) are the only all-India posts where any candidate from any state can apply.

Can I apply for more than one trade?
No. Each candidate can apply for only one trade in this recruitment cycle.

Is there a limit on the number of attempts?
No specific attempt limit is mentioned in the notification. As long as you meet the age and other eligibility criteria each year, you can apply.

Will Ex-Servicemen have to run in PET?
No. Ex-Servicemen are exempt from PET but must appear in PST for physical measurements. They must also clear CBT, Trade Test, Document Verification, and Medical Examination.

My domicile was issued more than a year ago. Will it be accepted?
The notification does not specify a maximum age for domicile certificates. However, it must be issued by a competent authority and must be verifiable. Check the official notification for any specific validity requirements.

Can PwD candidates apply?
No. Persons with Disabilities are explicitly not eligible for any post under this recruitment.

What if I am declared medically unfit in DME?
You can apply for a Review Medical Examination (RME) by giving written consent on the same day as the DME result. A fresh medical board will examine you. If declared unfit in RME, no further appeal is available.
