    1. Concept of State Eligibility Test (SET)

    The State Eligibility Test (SET) is designed to ensure uniform standards for teaching at the graduate and post-graduate levels across the country. The Government of India mandated that only candidates who qualify in the National Eligibility Test (NET) or equivalent tests like SET conducted by state commissions are eligible for the post of Assistant Professor. The Assam SLET is specifically conducted for the North Eastern region, including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

    2. Eligibility to Sit for SET:

    • General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates: Must secure at least 55% marks in their Master’s Degree.
    • SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer)/PWD candidates: Must secure at least 50% marks.
    • Final Year Candidates: Those who are awaiting results can apply provisionally but must secure the required percentage within 2 years of the result date.
    • Third Gender Category: Eligible for the same relaxations as SC/ST/PWD.
    • Ph.D. Holders: Completed before 19th September 1991 are eligible for a 5% relaxation in marks.

    The test is conducted at various centers across the North Eastern states. Candidates can choose their preferred center during the application process. If the number of candidates in a center is less than 25, they may be reassigned to the nearest center.
